Official Opening of Fullers Almshouses

Trustees of Legacy East Almshouse Partnership (LEAP), the corporate trustee of the Fuller Almshouses charity gathered with newly appointed residents, councillors from Stansted Mountfitchet Parish Council and other guests at the newly completed almshouses in Buxton Close, Stansted Mountfitchet to officially name them The Fuller’s Almshouses.

Peter Hill, Chairman of LEAP said “Today is a great occasion. Since 2021 when we took over responsibility for this charity, which used to have the 13 old almshouses in Church Road who had them built by William Fuller  Maitland in 1882 for the benefit of people over 60 years of age in Stansted Mountfitchet, we have been working hard to invest the money from the sale of those almshouses which were sold in 2013 by the former trustees, Colne Housing. "

"The almshouses were then in desperate need of lots of money being spent on them and Colne decided to sell them to a developer.  We are grateful to Peter Lock, Housing Enabling & Development Officer of Uttlesford District Council, and Stansted Mountfitchet Parish Council for their help and support. Also to Troy Homes, the developer of this site and with which we have been working for the last 18 months to build these three homes. We are pleased to call them The Fuller’s Almshouses after the family which once lived at Stansted Hall.”

Cllr Maureen Caton, Chair of Stansted Mountfitchet Parish Council said: “We are very pleased that Stansted now has some almshouses for local people in need of housing”.

Clare Heyes, Clerk to LEAP said: “Troy Homes, the developer of this small estate at Buxton Close, has built these three well-appointed flats to a very high standard and we and the new residents are very pleased with them”.
