Fullers Almshouses at Stansted Mountfitchet

As managers of the Fullers Almshouse Charity, LEAP are delighted to announce that we have secured three properties at a new development off High Lane in Stansted Mountfitchet to become almshouses.  They are at the entrance of a new road called Buxton Close.  These properties should be ready for occupation around the end of January 2026.

Nos 1 - 3 Buxton Close

These three homes, nos 1, 2 and 3, comprise two-bedroomed apartments, one on the ground floor and two on the first floor. They each have their own entrances and come with an on-site car parking space fitted with an EV charging point, as well as a buggy store with charging points. The apartments are well appointed, needing only the usual white goods in the kitchen. Heating will be provided by an air-source heat pump and they should be thermally very efficient.

The rent, or as it is called in the almshouse world Weekly Maintenance Contribution, or just WMC, is set at a level where it could be covered by Housing Benefit if the resident qualifies for it.

For more information, please contact Clare Heyes, the Clerk to the Fullers Almshouse Charity / LEAP by email to clerk@LEAPalmshouses.co.uk.

Fullers Almshouse Charity

Under the terms of the Fullers Charity, founded in 1882 by members of the Fuller Maitland family who at that time lived at Stansted Hall, the principal object of the charity is to provide homes for women over 60 years of age. This was later amended to include men over 60.  Those terms are still relevant today.

Applications from couples, where both partners are over the age of 60, or single people of either sex aged over 60 years, can be considered.

As this charity has always been about helping the poor of Stansted Mountfitchet, the trustees will give preference to applicants who have been living in Stansted Mountfitchet or who can show strong family connections with Stansted Mountfitchet, as well as in need of better housing and financially of limited means.
