LEAP adds three new almshouses to its portfolio

Updated: Nov 25, 2025

LEAP took on the management of the Fuller Almshouse Charity in 2021. It then comprised just a sum of money resulting from the sale of Fuller House in 2013. Fuller House, comprising 13 small almshouses, were the original almshouses in Stansted Mountfitchet built in 1882 by the wealthy Fuller Maitland family who lived in Stansted Hall at that time. Colne Housing, trustees of the Fuller Charity at that time of sale, could not find suitable housing in the area on which to spend the sale proceeds and passed the charity on to LEAP.

In August 2024, LEAP started discussions with Troy Homes and Uttlesford District Council about buying three apartments on a new development off High Lane at Stansted Mountfitchet. At the beginning of 2025 a deal was reached and LEAP looks forward to purchasing these three homes as almhouses when they are completed early in 2026.

They will be for people currently living in Stansted Mountfitchet or having close family connections with people in this village and who are over 60 years of age. They can be single people or couples in need of housing.
